Inhale possibility, exhale creativity. —Laura Jaworski
In the spirit of creating and consuming beauty, this space was thoughtfully designed, and the artists were carefully chosen—based on the belief that art and space matter.
Against the laws of website design, I offer you contact information for my wonderful artists and vendors—to support their awesomeness.
If you like what you see, click away; just remember to be even awesome-er, and click back. There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home…
Philip DeAngelo from Asheville, NC is a unique artist and an all-around, darn nice guy with an even better wife and many dogs.
Philip’s sophisticated, grown-up-child-like art made my heart smile, and my childlike voice say, “Put THAT on your paint brush and SMOKE IT, Dr. Seuss!”
Drop into his “working” studio the next time you’re in Asheville, pet his dogs, and watch him play with paint.
Koby Feldmos, an Israeli painter from Tel Aviv, created this beautiful interpretation of our logo more than a year ago. I have ordered a few paintings from him—even more stunning in person.
Our logo will “leave” a splash of color on your retina and your cones will dance the happy.
Andrew and Sarah Lonnquist are from Portland, Oregon. Their handmade art will soothe your soul and make your inner child giggle. Warning: Heroin is likely less addicting than these faces.
Tom Fedro—a Chicago artist and another self-proclaimed funny person—is creating a whimsical, bright, and fun interpretation of our logo. This will probably be the best work he has ever, ever done (no pressure, Tom).
And survey says…. awesome!
My river office desk, has been created by Muammer Gümüş from Turkey, re-purposing a 250-year old giving tree (moment of silence) that died a natural death. Notice the rare, European black walnut and epoxy resin—clear turquoise. This company’s motto is “Happiness is in your hands.”
I agree—for you, me, and my desk.
All three are coming soon—that is, if you make an appointment, and this desk gets through customs.
And… my desk made it through customs and COVID-19! Absolutely breathtaking…two out of three are complete!
My bookshelves are being built and installed by local carpenter, Alan Barrett of True Square Home Repair; however, the inspiration came all the way from Ukraine by an artist whose name will make you think you’ve been drinking, Олег Любащенко. If you have time, put down your drink and check this guy out—amazing, unique functional art at a great price!

ACustomCut from California is a cut above the rest. A large wooden,
is coming your way and a smaller one for you to rest your tea. Their font made me change our logo to match—talk about mind control. (“There’s someone in my head but it’s not me.” —Pink Floyd, Brain Damage.)
Cairns—like my practice—represent safety, hope, and friendship.
Yin meet yang.
These stones were originally abducted from the shores of Java, Indonesia. Next they were (probably) smuggled in coffee cans all the way to AwesomeStones, Ontario, Ca…lifornia.
This company offers no other description, and you can now better understand why, but they are indeed awesome… so ‘nuff said. Rock on!
Our “innovative architectural” reception wall from Modular Arts also came from the other side of our country, Seattle, Washington—and that was only the beginning of its (and my) very long journey. This description is secret code for requiring no less than 1.6 billion hours and nearly the same number of f-bombs to fully install. And yet, its refreshingly breathtaking so well worth the effort!
Our light fixtures are predominately from Corbett Lighting Company—I went for an upscale spa, galaxy theme—why? Because HIPAA requires me to give visual disclosure that I am very fond of being far out in your inner space.
Dennis Rice from Rice Builders, is a talented Master Builder/fellow veteran/and my personal therapist. Apparently designing and building unique spaces is my form of art therapy. This galaxy spa office is our third project together—each better than the last.
I, and the City of Durham’s planning department, did everything we could to keep Dennis Rice from retiring; but since he finally completed Durham’s bureaucratic gauntlet, and planted the tree my desk was made from—another moment of silence—it’s time.
We spent many years laughing, getting dirty, cleaning up my f-bombs, smack talking, processing trauma, and working with (mostly) amazing contractors. Dennis let me dream up designs again and again—often being told it couldn’t or shouldn’t be done—and then getting them done anyway, to include a very ridiculous 6200 square foot ranch home in Durham.
I believe in the impossible, enjoy the not normal, and love to create cool, unexpected spaces that make people smile. And Dennis worked hard to make my crazy dreams come true, repeatedly.
Thank you for being an important chapter in my life, Dennis Rice—you are a remarkable builder and a wonderful friend.
Compliments on a career well done!
